When buyers ask what sets Sureay blades apart, the answer is equipment depth and process control. Every stage of production — turning, milling, grinding, EDM cutting, heat treatment — is performed in-house at our 15,000 m² Ma'anshan facility. No subcontracting, no blind spots. This article walks through the actual machines on our factory floor.

CNC Turning: The Starting Point for Circular Blades

Our CNC lathe workshop handles the rough turning of circular and disc blades — slitter knives, log saw blades, granulator rotors — from raw bar stock or forgings. Multiple CNC lathes run simultaneously, maintaining consistent outer diameter and bore concentricity before the part moves to grinding. Geometry is programmed and locked at this stage, eliminating operator variation across repeat orders.

CNC Vertical Machining Centers: Complex Profiles and Features

Our NIDEK VMC-L vertical machining centers handle milling, drilling, tapping, and contouring on blade bodies that require complex 3D features. Shredder blade tooth profiles, bolt hole patterns, and custom mounting geometries are all produced here. The machines are equipped with automatic tool changers and run unattended on longer production batches.

A second CNC machining center handles medium-format blade work, including face milling of shear blade contact surfaces and profile milling for custom OEM configurations. Both machining centers feed the grinding department after roughing is complete.

CNC Grinding: Where Tolerances Are Finalized

The ULMAKE 3MK2020 CNC cylindrical grinder is one of our primary finishing machines for circular blades. It grinds outer diameters, bores, and bevels to dimensional tolerances of ±0.001 mm with submicron positional feedback. Slitter knives and log saw blades that require tight runout and concentricity specifications pass through this machine before final inspection.

Additional cylindrical grinders handle high-volume grinding of standard disc blades and shredder rotor shafts. Surface grinders in the same department finish flat faces on shear blades and guillotine knives, achieving surface finishes to Ra ≤ 0.02 µm where the application demands it.

Wire EDM: Precision Profiles That Grinding Cannot Reach

Our DK7745 wire EDM workshop runs multiple machines in parallel. Wire EDM cuts complex internal profiles, keyways, claw geometries, and tooth forms on fully hardened steel — features that cannot be produced by conventional milling or grinding after heat treatment. Typical cutting accuracy is ±0.003 mm, which is essential for shredder blade tooth geometry and the tight bore fits required on rotor-mounted knives.

Running several EDM machines simultaneously means that custom and non-standard blade profiles do not create bottlenecks. Each machine can hold a different program, so granulator blades, shear blades, and specialty profiles run concurrently.

Raw Material Cutting: MESUN MS-400 Band Saw

The MESUN MS-400 automatic band saw handles the first operation in the blade lifecycle: cutting raw bar stock, plate, and forging billets to length. Precise cut length and squareness at this stage reduces material waste and ensures consistent blanks enter the machining workflow. The machine runs with coolant flood to maintain cut quality on high-alloy tool steels including D2, M2, and SKD-11.

Heat Treatment: Hardness Is Built In, Not Added On

In-house heat treatment gives Sureay direct control over the most critical variable in blade performance: hardness. Our facility runs both box resistance furnaces for standard alloy steels and vacuum heat treatment furnaces for grades that require a clean, oxide-free atmosphere — such as M2 HSS, M35, and powder-metallurgy steels. Furnace temperature is calibrated and logged for each batch. This is followed by double-temper cycles to relieve internal stress before the part enters finish grinding.

Cryogenic treatment at −196 °C is applied to grades where maximum wear resistance is specified — transforming retained austenite and achieving a more uniform carbide distribution through the blade cross-section. The result is consistent hardness across the full cutting edge, not just the surface. Every finished blade is 100% Rockwell-tested before dispatch.
