Engineering Advantages

01 — METALLURGY

Bimetallic Inlay Technology

We braze a premium High-Speed Steel (HSS) or Tungsten Carbide edge onto a tough, flexible alloy steel body. This gives you the extreme wear resistance needed for coated paper, without the risk of the blade snapping under heavy clamping pressure.

02 — CONFIGURATION

Matched 3-Piece Sets

Supplied as a ready-to-install set (1 Front, 1 Left, 1 Right). All three blades are precision surface-ground in the same batch to a ±0.01 mm thickness tolerance, ensuring zero-downtime installation and perfect alignment.

03 — PERFORMANCE

Anti-Glue Mirror Finish

Cutting through book spines exposes the blade to hot, sticky PUR and EVA adhesives. Our blades are lapped to a microscopic mirror finish, preventing glue drag that would otherwise smear across the book’s edge.

Product FAQs & Buying Guidance

Technical FAQs

01When should I upgrade from HSS to Tungsten Carbide (TC) trimmer blades?
+

You should upgrade to Tungsten Carbide (TC) when cutting high volumes of recycled paper, gloss-coated art paper, or thick books bound with heavy PUR adhesive. Coated papers contain clay and minerals that dull HSS very quickly. TC blades provide 5 to 10 times the cutting life of HSS, drastically reducing machine downtime for blade changes.

02Why do my trimmer blades keep tearing or chipping the book spine?
+

Spine tearing is usually caused by one of three things: (1) The blade is dull and needs changing; (2) The bevel angle is incorrect for the type of paper/glue being cut; or (3) Adhesive build-up on the back of the blade is causing ‘drag’. Ensure your blades have a mirror-lapped finish to prevent glue adhesion, and consider upgrading to HSS or Carbide for better edge retention.

03Can Tungsten Carbide (TC) trimmer blades be resharpened?
+

Yes, but they must be sharpened using specialized diamond grinding wheels. Using standard aluminum oxide or silicon carbide wheels will destroy the carbide edge and generate micro-cracks. If your local sharpening service does not have the correct diamond wheel equipment, we recommend sending them to a specialized industrial grinder.

04What is the correct installation sequence for a three-knife set?
+

Because the side knives often shear slightly against the cutting stick or front knife path, alignment is critical. Install all three blades loosely first. Set and torque the front knife to establish the head datum, then alternate tightening the side knives. Since our 3-piece sets are ground to an identical thickness tolerance, they prevent the uneven clamping pressure that causes binding.

Why Choose Sureay

01Do your trimmer blades fit Kolbus, Wohlenberg, and Perfecta machines?
+

Yes. We maintain a comprehensive database of exact OEM blueprints for all major European and Japanese bookbinding lines, including Müller Martini, Kolbus, Wohlenberg, Perfecta, and Horizon. The mounting holes, slots, and threaded inserts will be a perfect drop-in fit.

02What is the lead time for a custom Tungsten Carbide trimmer set?
+

Standard HSS sets for popular Müller Martini and Kolbus models are often in stock. Custom Tungsten Carbide (TC) inlaid sets typically require 15–20 working days to manufacture, due to the complex vacuum brazing and diamond grinding processes required for carbide.
