Engineering Advantages
Powder Metallurgy (PM) Steel
ASP23 and ASP52 PM steels eliminate the banded carbide segregation found in cast D2. This sub-micron grain structure prevents edge chipping when cutting hard, high-tensile stainless or silicon steel strips.
Zero Cumulative Error
On gang slitting setups, blade thickness errors stack up quickly. Our ±0.001mm precision grinding ensures your arbor dimensions remain perfectly within specification, saving hours of setup and shimming time.
Anti-Galling Polish
Slitting aluminum and copper often causes metal dust to 'cold weld' to the blade, scratching the coil edge. Our mirror-lapped side faces (Ra ≤0.02μm) drastically reduce friction, preventing material adhesion entirely.

Product FAQs & Buying Guidance
Technical FAQs
01Should I use D2 or ASP23 for slitting stainless steel strips?+−
While D2 is adequate for soft carbon steels, slitting high-tensile stainless steel causes rapid wear and micro-chipping on D2 edges. ASP23 Powder Metallurgy steel is highly recommended for stainless strips under 1.0mm thickness. Its uniform carbide structure resists chipping, delivering 3 to 5 times the edge life of D2 and minimizing machine downtime.
02How do you prevent 'galling' or metal build-up when slitting aluminum?+−
Aluminum is highly susceptible to galling (cold welding to the blade). We prevent this by mirror-lapping the side faces of the blades to a surface roughness of Ra ≤0.02μm. This ultra-smooth finish reduces the friction coefficient, preventing aluminum particles from adhering to the knife and scratching your finished coils.
03Why is a ±0.001mm thickness tolerance necessary?+−
In gang slitting operations, multiple knives and spacers are stacked on the arbor. If a blade has a ±0.005mm tolerance, stacking 20 blades creates a cumulative error of ±0.100mm. This will cause the slit coils to be out of width specification and induce camber (bowing). Our ±0.001mm tolerance ensures absolute precision across the entire arbor stack.
04Can you supply matching precision spacers?+−
Yes, precision slitting requires both knives and spacers to have identical tolerances. We manufacture lightweight aluminum, steel, and bonded-rubber strippers/spacers ground to the same ±0.001mm thickness tolerances as our slitter knives.
Why Choose Sureay
01Do you supply matched knife sets with inspection reports?+−
Yes. For multi-knife gang slitting arbors, we supply matched sets accompanied by a CMM inspection report. This documents the exact thickness of each individual knife, guaranteeing the set meets your cumulative tolerance requirements before installation.
02What is the lead time for PM steel or Carbide slitter knives?+−
Standard D2 and basic PM steel sizes can typically be manufactured in 10–15 working days. Solid Tungsten Carbide and highly specialized PM alloys require complex lapping and grinding, usually taking 15–25 working days depending on the OD and tolerance requirements.
